Future means of transportation, the future tenses

Description

In this lesson, the students learn about the tenses and the relevant vocabulary of the future. This will be done through a video for the development of means of technology and another video for clips for next generation vehicles. The students will be engaged in discussion, poster design and presentation and feedback exchange through different interaction patterns. The teacher would be facilitating tasks through feeding in with the required language content.

Procedure

Warmer/ Lead-in • To discuss the recent available means of technology.

1-Teacher plays a video for the development of the different means of technology around us. 2- Teacher discusses the recent means of technology and the students' most preferable technological tools.

Exposure • To enable the students to visualise the task

1- Teacher plays a video showing clips for some of the next generation vehicles. 2- Students sit in groups (of 5) according to their choice of the preferable future vehicles.

Task (8-10 minutes) • To engage the students in interactive practice to produce the language communicatively.

1- Teacher asks the students in each group to discuss the features of the future vehicle they agreed upon. 2- The students in each group should consider the advantages and disadvantages of their choice. 3- The students should take notes of their ideas to further present them to their peers.

Planning (6-8 minutes) • To feed the students with the lexical and structural items needed to complete the task.

1- Teacher monitors the students during working in their groups on the task. 2- Teacher provides the students with any needed vocabulary or structures for task completion. 3- Teacher take notes for all the language (vocabulary, grammar, phonics) provided to list them on board.

Report (6-8 minutes) • To enable the students to present their ideas for content feedack

1- The teacher plays the video clips again to be stopped at each vehicle of the shown clips. 2- When the chosen video clip appears, the relevant group of students starts to present their ideas. 3- When a group of students reports on their work to the whole class, the other students in the other groups take notes for follow-up feedback.

Language Analysis (6-8 minutes) • To enable students to identify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the language used.

1- Teacher thanks all the groups of the students for their work at both levels; group and whole class. 2- Teacher starts a whole group discussion to work out on the compiled list , filled during the task, on the board concerning meaning, pronunciation and form. 3- Teacher also elaborates giving feedback for the language presented by the students during the exchanged content feedback

Language Practice (8-10 minutes) • To enable students to practice the new vocabulary and the expressions of the future tense

1- Teacher directs students' attention to the compiled list of vocabulary as well as the expressions of the future shown on the board. 2- Teacher asks students, in their groups, to prepare a poster for a creative shape of vehicle they dream of in the future. The students are also directed to describe this vehicle employing the language discussed on the board. 3- Each poster should be hanged on the wall. 4- All the students, after paying a visit to all the hanged posters, should be ready with sticky notes for each poster. 5- The group's poster that receives the more positive comments will be the winners.
