Procedure (25-41 minutes)
Ask students to look for objects in the classroom and tell the teacher where they are. Objects should be displayed on the tables, next to the window, under the tables, in front of the door, and behind the students. Use CCQs to elicit where the objects are.
Teacher uses the picture on page 37 to elicit more examples using prepositions and 'there is/are' to describe the picture. CCQs used to demonstrate the activity for students and elicit more examples 'there's a photo in front of the mirror'. Where is Suzie? where exactly? Where is the cat? is it next to the television? Is the DVD player on the table? Where are the magazines? Where is the lamp?
Demonstrate Exercise 4 on page 37 and let students complete the controlled practice in pairs. Provide an answer key and let them correct their answers. Ask the students to sit back-to-back in pairs and ask them to do Practice 1 after demonstration with the whole class.. Student A asks student B questions to find out where things in the box are. Student B answers the questions of student A. Teacher asks students to swap roles for more practice. Answer key provided for feedback.
Demonstrate the listening activity to students to concept check their understanding for a meaningful practice.
Ask students to change their places according to a specific new plan. Demonstrate the activity for students. Get the students to describe the classroom and teach each other. ask the students to have quick look in the corridor and report back their description
