Procedure (32-49 minutes)
Discussion, eliciting the meaning of TL Success/ Failure Form Pronunciation Materials: on the board
Students read the quotes, check if they understand the words in bold and discuss the meaning with their partners. Then they discuss wit h the partner the quote which they liked most of all and say why they like it. Materials : printout
Students are exposed to the TL in context of the TED talk (pre-listening). They match the words with the meanings and then check their answers with their partners. The right answers are presented in the board. Materials: a printout
The teacher checks if students are familiar with TED Talks. Students watch the TED talk, check if they can identify and understand TG in context.
Students discuss 2 questions related to the main idea about Success the speaker shared in the TED talk. The teacher monitors and provides micro-teaching in groups Materials: printout
The teacher explains the meaning of TL by miming and eliciting from the whole class. The students interview each other and utilise the TG in their answers.
The teacher provides feedback on some mistakes during speaking to raise ss awareness. Then the teacher points to the same 2 words ( success and failure) and asks the group to pronounce them. The teacher checks the students what the criteria of success for them are and finishes the lesson.
