Regarding reading as a sub aim, students will read a passage about different touristic places in Egypt. Regarding the speaking practice, students will have different photos of different touristic places with useful information stuck on the wall.In pairs, students will go to the photos and choose the places they would like to visit and speak using the information on the photos.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of natural places in the context of a reading passage about trips to Egypt.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about a trip to Egypt.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask students some questions like, "Did you visit Sharm El Sheikh before?" and "What other places did you visit in Egypt?"

Clarification (10-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will clarify the vocabulary words by using photos or the projector in class. In case, the students know a word well, I will not drill and I will just go to the next word. If the students are confused with a word, I might ask CCQs, follow ECDW and clarify its part of speech along with showing its stress.

Controlled Practice (2-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students will solve exercise 9.2 on page 147 Students will match words to the pictures. I will demo this exercise by giving it to the students on handouts. Then, I will go to the board, write the word mountain from the exercise, draw it and match the word to the drawing. I will ask the students to solve the rest of the questions. Then I will tell them to check the answers in pairs. After the students finish, I will tell them that there are three copies of the answer key on the wall. I will ask them to stand up and go to check their answers. I will demo this and say," There are 1,2,3 copies of the answer key. How many copies? (3). I will ask the students to stand up and to hold their handouts. I will hold a handout and go to one of the copies on the wall and act as if I am checking my answers. I will give the needed instructions for each step while acting it. I can demo that and say," stand up, hold your handout, go to any copy you like and check your answers."

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will pre-teach blocking vocabulary like the words a coral reef, a mosque and the phrase go snorkelling. I will give the students the reading handouts. I will ask students to read the passage for gist in one minute. I will ask the students ICQs. i will demo it and act as if I am reading quickly. I will ask them,"Shall we read quickly or slowly?" (Quickly). I will ask the students to read and tell me what country does it talk about? is the country interesting for tourists?. Students give me the answer. I will ask the students to read again for specific information to tell me what places do we have in the reading passage. In pairs, students check together. Students tell me the answer.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Regarding the speaking practice, students will have different photos of different touristic places with useful information stuck on the wall.In pairs, students will go to the photos and choose the places they would like to visit and speak using the information on the photos. I will write on the board the sentence," I would like to visit .... because it has ....". I will tell the students that there are photos of five places on the wall. I will ask the students to choose one of the places to talk about. I will act as if I am choosing a photo to talk about. I will ask the students to go in pairs. I will ask one student to stand up and come with me. I will go with the student to one of the photos. I will tell the students that there are some information on the photo to help them. I will look to the board and then to the picture and talk to my student saying, "I would like to visit Sharm El Shiekh because it has beautiful beaches. I will go to the board and fill the words in the gaps. I will come back to my standing student and tell him/her another sentence, "I would like to visit Sharm El Sheikh because it has nice shops. I will ask my standing student to go back to his seat. I will ask the students to stand up and start speaking in pairs.
