Procedure

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To introduce the present continuous structure through the context of vocabulary and listening exercises about work

Regarding the vocab review, exercise 1a and 1b, I will give the students cards of disorganized collocations and tell them to stick them together on the wall. I will match and stick one set of collocations together as a demo for the students. Finally, I will give my feedback. Regarding the listening exercise, I will introduce relevant pictures for a quick lead-in. I will make the students listen to the audio of the exercise 3a for one time. then, I will tell the students to solve it and check together. After that, I will make them listen again with providing them with the answer key.

Clarification (10-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the present continuous tense in the context of vocabulary and listening exercises about work and meetings

I write a sentence in the positive present continuous tense on the board. I elicit its meaning, form from the students and drill its pronunciation. Then, I write other sentences on the board in the positive form with highlighting the meaning, the form and the pronunciation of each sentence. I then elicit the negative form of the sentences on the board from the students. After that, I tell some students to stand up and show the cards of different parts of a yes-no question in the present continuous tense to their friends. Their friends try to put the yes-no question parts in the correct order while seated. I use finger counting to drill with the students on the correct form. Then, I tell the seated students to stand up and show their friends other cards of different parts of a wh question in the present continuous tense to their friends. Their friends try to put the wh question parts in the correct order while seated. I use finger counting to drill with the students on the correct form.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To make the students focus on the target language and prepare them for the freer practice

Students will focus on the target language by solving the exercises 4a,4b,9b and 9a. Students will try to solve each exercise together in pairs. Then I provide them with the answer keys.

Freer Practice (5-10 minutes) • To give the students the chance to speak using the target grammar structure

In exercise 12, I will provide the students with a picture of some people at work doing many things. In pairs, students will write questions about the people on the picture first. Then, they will ask each other and answer.
