Procedure (37-47 minutes)
greet ss, remind them with my name and ask them to guess what makes me happy.
1) pre-teaching some vocabulary that may block their understanding of the audio like ( have a lie-in), ( so far), (art gallery), and (grandchildren) divide the ss into pairs. the list of words will be written on the board. get ss to match difficult words with their definitions. the pair which finishes first wins. compare their answers with another pair. 2) get ss to do task 4a page 6 by showing them photos of Maxie, Caroline, and Fiona and elicit answers from ss and guess what makes them happy.
1) Prepare the ss to do task 4b page 6 by asking them if they need to understand every word to get the main idea before listening to the audio ( to consolidate their use of skimming) 2) illustrate the question that they will going to answer in task 4b 3) Play the audio for the first time and get ss to check their answers of the question in pairs then give feed back.
1) before telling ss that they will listen to the audio for the second time, i will give the ss one minute to read the nine questions in task 4c page 6 ( a scanning task ) 2) Ask what details they are looking for to answer and set a time limit of two minutes to check their answers in pairs. 3) play the audio 4) ask ss to check their answers in pairs. 5) give the answer key for feed back.
1) demonstrate for ss by drawing a circle on the board and write three things that make me happy and ask them to do the same on their own. ( speaking activity ) 2) ask ss to discuss their answers with their partners. 3) monitoring their discussions and take notes of some of their ideas and mistakes if there is any. 4) give both content and language feedback after they finish their discussions.
1) if time allows get ss to read the script and ask them to underline the difficult vocab. 2) ask them to discuss meanings with their partners.
