In this lesson students learn how to form a sentence that expresses what they like/don't like.

Materials

Abc Handouts, PPT, whiteboard, flashcards.

Main Aims

  • To provide of Like + Verb + ing / Noun. in the context of First date

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about First Date in the context of rock music, shopping for clothes, jazz

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1_ Teacher makes sure that all the students are seated and ready for the lesson. 2_ Teacher shows the students the phrases on the wall. 3_ Teacher asks the students to put the phrases in the correct order (I love../I really like ../...) 4_ Teacher elicits sentences from the students (I like travelling).

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

1_ Teacher drills the sentence (I like cooking) 2_ Teacher asks the students to form similar sentences. 3_ Teacher highlights the grammar parts using the projector/board in case of technical problem.

Clarification (4-6 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

1_ Teachers asks the students to form a sentence about two things they like and one thing they don't like. ( I like travelling and cooking, but I don't like reading). 2_ Teacher will ask the students to work in pairs forming sentences.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ex 5 1_ Teacher will introduce the reading text characters first (The presenter and Mark). 2_ Teacher asks the students to read the text in three minutes to find four things that Mark likes and only one thing that he doesn't like. 3_ Teacher gives the students time to check their answers in pairs. 4_ Teacher gives FB. He discus the students answers.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ex 6 1_ Teacher asks the students to read questions 1-6. 2_ Teacher gives a clear instruction to the students, as they should answer the questions 1-6 after listening. 3_ Teacher plays the listening track and stops it to check the first question's answer. 4_ Teacher plays the track and allow the students to answer the questions 2_6. 5_ Teacher gives the students time to check their answers in pairs. 6_ Teacher gives FB. He asks one of the students to write the correct answers on the board.

Free Practice (2-5 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

If time 1_ Teacher makes a sentence about three things he likes and one thing he doesn't like ( I like travelling,reading and cooking, but I don't like dancing) 2_ Teacher asks students to talk to each other about things they like/don't like.
