Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of the difference between(how long- how far- how often) when talking about distance-time and the frequency of the journeys that students have

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide the practice of language used for distance -time and frequency in context of travel and journey

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will show students some pictures of public transport . Then i will ask SS to look at pictures for 30 seconds . Then I ask ss to talk to their partners about what they saw possible ICQs : Do you watch pictures for 1 minute ?(No,30 secondss) Do you watch pictures for a long time?((no short time) What will you do after 30 seconds? ( talk to each other about pics) Do you discuss the pictures?(yes) will you tell me what you think?(yes) then ss will tell me what they think. Now lets talk about the pics. 1) do you use them ? 2) do we have them in istanbul? 3) are these Expensive ?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will give SS a reading about public transport . They need to read it in 3 min .I also will give them a handout containing questions about the reading they need to find the answers in the text. possible ICQs: 1- Do you read the the reading? yes 2- do you answer the questions ? 3- Are the Answers in the reading? then I will ask them to read them alone and then check with partners. Then I will ask them to give me the answers.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

using questions from the reading excersise i will ask students to tell me the question sentences and the n i will write them on the board.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I write the first sentence how long does it take to travel to british side? eliciting 1) ir is about present 2)its about time 3) does is for third person it 4) the verb is also present checking= 1) is this it in the past ? no 2)does it take 30 minutes for you or more ? drilling reapeat writing stressing how often does he use public transport ? elicing 1)again the action is repetitive ( everyday- usually ) 2) it about frequency every day usually a week twice a week 3) we can use Do and Does but we should change the subject checking 1) do you use it ? 2) is it everyday or every week 3) is it often or always? drilling drill writing stressing how far is british side from him ? eliciting 1) It is about distance 2) it is about meters and kilo meters checking 1)is your home far or close ? 2) is it 1okm away 3)how far it is? drilling repeat writing stressing

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Teacher shows ss the controled practice activiy sheet and give them instructions. They work in pairs . then share it with the class possible ICQs 1) should you read the first part ? 2) should you fill the gap ? 3) should you fill with hoe long-how far and how often?

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

I will give them an activity with some options and . They should answer it's about themselves and how they travel .and then check the answers in pairs possible ICQS : 1) Is it about you 2) should you choose one or two or more ? 3) do you do it alone ? 4) do you compare your answers with each other?

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

students will be divided into group A and B play a grammatical game. and say sentences with how long , how far and how often? and then work in pairs and group a ask the question and group b answer and then take turns.
