Procedure (59-68 minutes)
*Open a class discussion with the students. *Ask the students: -Have you ever applied for a job? -Where? -What was the job about? -When was the last time you had a job interview? -Did you have good or bad experiences? -What's your dream job?
*Chest the handout and tell the students that we have here Birgitte. She is a fashion student and she is looking for a part time job. She sees this advertisement in the local newspaper. I want you to read the advertisement and find out whether the job is suitable for her or not? Is it a part-time job and which days would she have to work? *Give the students the handouts. *Teacher monitors. *Ask the students to check their answers in pairs. *Give the students feedback by demonstrating with them.
*Tell the students that Birgitte decides to send her CV. Which topics do you think she should include? I want you to read these topics in the table and tick the topics that you think she should include in her CV. *Ask ICQ: Are you going to tick the topics that Birgitte should include in her CV? (yes) *Teacher monitors. *Ask the students to check their answers in pairs. *Ask the students to read Birgitte's CV and tick the topics in exercise 2 which are included. *Ask ICQ: Are you going to read ant tick the topics Birgitte included in her CV? (yes) *Teacher monitors. *Give the students feedback by demonstrating with them. *Ask the students to flip over the handouts. *Write on the board (profile-experience-qualifications-languages-personal details). *Give the students small cards of Birgitte's CV and ask them to stick the paragraphs with the words. *After sticking them, ask the students what should I write first, then,....? and number the words. *Elicit answers from the students. *Ask students what should I write in the headings (profile-experience-qualifications-languages-personal details) and ask CCQs. *Drill the headings (Address-profile-experience-qualifications-languages-personal details) *Tell the students that in writing a CV we miss out words which are unnecessary or obvious like personal pronouns, articles, auxiliary verbs, to be, to have and to do as main verbs. *Give the students examples from exercise 4b. *Give the students further examples if they are unsure. *Ask the students to read Birgitte's CV and find words or phrases that mean the following. (exercise 4a) *Demonstrate the first one with the students. *Teacher monitors. *Ask the students to check their answers in pairs. *Give the students feedback by demonstrating with them. *Stick on the wall 6 CVs and ask students to leave their chairs and work in one group. *Tell the students to read the 6 CVs carefully and to choose from them the best written CV and identify the errors in the other CVs. *Ask ICQs: -Are you going to read theses CVs carefully? (yes) -Which of these CVs are you going to choose? (the best one) -Are you going to identify the errors in the other CVs? (yes) *Teacher monitors. *Give the students feedback by demonstrating with them.
*Show the students an advertisement about a job. *Give the students time to read the advertisement.
*After showing them the advertisement, tell the students to apply for the job they need to write their Cvs. *Tell the students before writing their CVs they should take notes about what they are going to write. *Tell the students to write an organized CV. *Ask ICQ: Are you going to write immediately? (no, take notes first) *Give the students time to prepare and write their CVs. *Teacher monitors and notes down some mistakes. *When they finish, encourage them to read each others CVs. *Ask the students who should apply for the job?
