Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, students will be better able to speak for fluency about their favorite movie scene in the context of stories

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of this session, students will have had the chance to listen for specific information about someone's favorite scene

Procedure

Lead-in (5 minutes) • Set context and generate students' interest

-Hold up pictures and tell ss they have to pick 2 movies : the one they liked the most and the one they liked the least/hated. T draws a cline on the board to illustrate. -In pairs, they discuss why they chose these movies (3 mins) -OC feedback

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • Expose ss to target language in a context

-Hold up HO1. Ask them to fold the paper,then listen and answer the first question. It's about someone who talks about their favorite movie scene. -Play track -Pair check (1 min) -OC feedback -Ss unfold the paper, listen again and answer question 2. -Monitor their work -Pair check (1 min)

Useful language (10-15 minutes) • Provides ss with the language model they need for the speaking activity

-Elicit answers from ss and highlight mfp of the following: 1-I've seen this x times and it's my absolute favorite 2-it always makes me laugh 3-can't get enough of it 4-My favorite scene is the scene with... 5-If you've never seen it, you really should. Added phrases: 6-it's so gripping/makes me on the edge of my seat 7-The main character is brilliant 8-It's a very moving scene 9-It's a tear jerker 10-I totally recommend it. -Ss then will drill these expressions and they will be written on the board

Brainstorming (5-7 minutes) • Give ss time to prepare ideas for the speaking task for a better result

-Ask ss to think of 2 of their favorite movie scenes and write notes on the following: 1-name of the movie of this scene 2-how the scene makes you feel/describe it 3-who the main character is and describe him/her 4-what happens in the scene 5-recommend it to your friend -Remind them of the useful language highlighted on the board and ask them to use it. -Set time (5 mins) -Monitor their work

Speaking (10-15 minutes) • Give ss the chance to practice the TL for fluency

-Ask ss to stand facing each other -They work in pairs and talk about their favorite film scene. -Set time (5 mins) -T claps so that ss switch partners -Now they talk about another favorite scene they have. (5 mins) -Monitor their work -Content/language feedback -Flexi stage: ss tell the T about a movie they would like to watch based on their classmates' recommendation.
