In This lesson Ss will learn about past simple Tense. I will teach them the form of the tense and how to ask using "did". I will also make them practice speaking as a sup aim.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of past simple questions in the context of childhood

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of Interesting places

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this stage I will not use Material, i will start by asking students questions about what they know about past simple such as why we use past simple? I will give them a space to make them engaged in the target language.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this stage I will provide context for the target language through a simple order activity, that will allow students to recognize that we are going to learn past simple question with did. Students will make mistakes so, I will encourage them and give them an opportunity for that, I will use expression like it is okay and well done.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Now I will start to highlight the target language by asking them question about the tense and how can we ask using did, I will not explain in direct way, I will elicit them to answer these question by guess it.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

In this stage I will clarify the meaning then I will use the same examples of the previous activity to clarify the form and the pronunciation of the past simple question.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

This stage is so important because it will help them to practice what they learnt. I will hand them false or true activity about things they did when they were ten years old then, I will let them ask their partners about these things. In this stage I will use chesting and ICQS to be sure that they follow my instructions.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

I will make students prepared for the freer practice through completing matching activity of Helena and her friend about weekend.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Now I will let them practice in free way. I will make them asking their partners about interesting places they visited recently, I will give them 7 minutes for that activity and I will do monitiring to be sure that they make it perfectly.
