helping the students practice skimming and scanning in the context of strange towns
Subsidiary Aims
-
introducing the students some new vocabulary and have them practice these vocabulary through some pictures and flashcards, including "definition and examples."
Procedure (47-63 minutes)
I will divide the student into group of 3. I will give each group the same scenario about strange towns , and ask them to discuss how they would respond. They will have 2 minutes to discuss in small groups, then we will share as a class for another 2 minutes
1- The teacher will put some pictures and definitions on the board, including the implied meanings of the blocking vocabulary. 2- Then, the teacher will have the students stand up and have them match the definitions to the appropriate pictures. 3- After checking the matching part with the WC, the teacher will put some examples on the board and will have the students match the definitions to the suitable examples. 4- At the last stage of the pre-reading, the teacher will try to teach the pronunciation of the blocking vocabulary and have the students repeat the pronunciation of the words.
The teacher will give the students some questions to read first. 2-Then after they read the question they will make skimming through the text to know the about the hole passage . 3 - they will make scanning and skimming to answer the questions 4- Each of group will discuss together . 5-share the answer with the hole class
1-Teacher will told them to read in details 2- each one of group has different paragraph 3- then he/ she will summarize what he/she understands to their friends in the group. 4-Teacher will move around these groups and makes notes.
Teacher will write all mistakes in the board and discuss with them about these mistakes. 2- the teacher will have the students work in pairs and discuss what they learnt today's lesson.. and have them remember the blocking vocabulary.
