In this lesson students will be able to read and understand text about towns

Materials

Abc flash cards
Abc markers
Abc SB

Main Aims

  • To provide scan and detailed reading practice using a text about Helping the students practice skimming in the context of an article about the character types of the postcards

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about places in towns and cities.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Give the students a chance to learn something more about the teacher. Put the students into small groups to brainstorm things they would like to ask about "Where you come form ?" "Is it your city a good place ?" etc. Encourage the students to ask additional questions if they wish.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1- show them some pictures about blocking vocabulary then write in on the WB. 2- Divided the students to 4 groups each group 5 students.

While-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Discuss the questions and write the students ideas on the board. students read the text quickly and check their answers .give the students information form a culture note in the text.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Tell the students to read the text again in detail. Encourage the students to guess the meaning of any new words from the context. give them handout exercise D check the answer in pairs and take feedback as a class

Post-Reading and feedback. (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In pairs, ask students to talk about if they would like to visit or live in Thames Town. students tell each other about three places they like in their Town or City. Monitor ,help struggling Ss Ask some students to tell the class about the places they chose . Ss work in small groups, brainstorming more places in a city. Check answers by drawing three columns on the board and asking individual Ss to come up and write their answers on the board.
