Procedure

Lead-in (4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1) Show the students a picture for someone who throws rubbish in the street; then tell them " when I see someone does this, I usually ask him/her to take it and throw in the bin" 2) Ask them to discuss with their partners this situation, and tell them what do they usually do when you see this? 3) Listen to their answers

Exposure (10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text

1) Pre-teach the words "poll", "income", "disabled" and "drink-drive" by holding HO #1 up and asking them to match the words in column A with their meanings in column B. 2) Monitor and take notes for the words they couldn't guess. 3) Ask them to check their answers in pairs. 4) Nominate some students to say the answer, then project the answer key. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Hold HO #2 up and set the context "this is a result of a poll carried out about Britons" 2) Give instructions by asking them to read the text and imagine that this poll happened in Egypt and replace the percentage according to their opinions. 3) Monitor them and make sure they are on task. 4) Ask them to discuss the new percentages in pairs. 5) Give feedback on content by nominating 2 students to say their opinions.
