Reading: Ss will read a dialogue between Todd and Katie talking about what they did yesterday, and will fill gaps with suitable verbs.
Procedure (45-59 minutes)
- Show Ss a part of white and black movie. - Ask Ss about what they think of the video. - Ask Ss Questions to elicit Ex. Do you think this movie is new or old? Was it shot nowadays?
- T tells Ss a short story about how she spent her weekend
- T asks Ss to tell her 3 things she did on her weekend. - T writes examples that Ss say on board. - T underlines/ highlights verbs in the past tense. Ex. I (cooked) dinner.
- T explains marker sentences. - T clarifies past simple rule and form - T ask CCQs
- Pass out the dialogue handout, and ask Ss to fill the gaps with verbs from top of the handout individually - Ss check their answers together and after that whole class feedback by writing the answers on the whiteboard. - Error correction if necessary (peer correction)
- Divide Ss into 3 groups As, Bs and Cs. - Give each group a set of pictures showing different actions. - Ask Ss to write sentences describing these actions in the past simple tense. - Ss check sentences with other groups and then with T. - The fastest group with more correct answers win.
- Divide Ss into pairs. - Each pair should have an interviewer and an interviewee. - Ask each pair to make an interview about the theme of "what did you do at the weekend?". - Each pair should present their role play. - T takes notes on the errors and then delays feedback after the activity. - T Writes the errors on the board and ask the Ss to find the mistake. - T Highlights mistakes and asks Ss to correct them.( peer correction) - Ask Ss if they have any questions. - Wrap up the lesson.
