Upper-intermediate - Advanced level

Description

At the end of this micro lesson, students will have a clearer idea about symbols and icons and how they can be used to represents ideas and concepts. This micro lesson will take no longer than 10 - 15 minutes. Please note that this lesson plan is based on the assumption that students already know some vocabulary for presentation.

Procedure

Introduction Stage (2-4 minutes) • Clarifying the idea behind symbols and icons

The teacher will start the lesson by showing a couple of pictures that represents some ideas and places (e.g., Eiffel Tower, which stands for Paris, the dove, which stands for peace, the pyramids, which stands for Egypt, the ₺ icon, which represents the Turkish Lira.)

Brainstorming stage (1-3 minutes) • To encourage group work through brainstorming some ideas

The teacher will show logomakr website to demonstrate how to create a logo. Next, the teacher will group the students accordingly and will ask each group to brainstorm some symbols or icons of their own.

Production Stage (4-7 minutes) • To practice speaking skill through presenting ideas.

The teacher will ask one of the students to come to share his idea and explain about his icon. The presentation of the icon can be done through the use of the following website: https://logomakr.com/ Finally, at the end of the student's presentation, the teacher will try to elicit some improvements to the icon that the student made through asking some questions such as, 'what can you add/remove to improve this icon?'
