Description

In this lesson, students learn about the use of the present simple through guided discovery based on talking about daily activities. The lesson starts with a vocabulary of daily activities. This is followed by students answering questions and doing interviews. Finally there is some controlled practice.

Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss. open their books on page 52. The teacer elicits some students to say out loud what the pictures are about.

Exposure (15-20 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

The teacher explains how the Simple Present is used to talk about routines, and writes some questions on the board for the students to answer

Highlighting (10-15 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Once students have succesfully answered the questions, the teacher leads their attention towards the grammar box on the bottom of the page. Then he/she reminds ss. about the spelling rules with he, she and it.

Controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss. proceed to do the activity on page 139 to practice the correct writing of some verbs.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The teacher guides students through the correct pronunciation of the verbs' forms. Then they review altogether the meaning of said verbs.

Semi-Controlled Practice (10-15 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Through guided participation, the teacher asks students the questions they have already answered on the exposure activity, then he/she writes them on the board using the third person of the singular form. Students explain why the teacher is adding -s

Free Practice (20-30 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students interview their classmates in the same way the teacher just did, and report their answers using the third person of the singular. Finally, for further practice they fullfill the activity presented on page 53.
