Procedure (47 minutes)
1) Display a picture for The White House; elicit its name by asking "What is this building?" and "Where is it?" 2) Display a picture for Jonny Depp; elicit his name by asking "Who is he?" and "Where is he from?" 3) Ask them in pairs to discuss "What do you know about America?"
1) Display a picture for the Statue of Liberty; elicit the word "New York" by asking "In which state in America is the Statue of Liberty?" Drill chorally/ groups, then write it on the board. 2) Display a picture for EgyptAir; elicit the word "Airline" by asking "What kind of companies is EgyptAir?" Drill chorally/ groups, then write it on the board. 3) Display a picture for Levi's jeans; elicit the word "jeans" Drill chorally/ groups and focus on the /ʤ/ sound, then write it on the board. 4) Display a picture for Donald Trump; elicit the word "president" by asking "What is his job?" Drill chorally/ groups, then write it on the board. 5) Use the same picture to elicit the word "famous = popular" by asking "Do all people all over the world know him? YES" Drill chorally/ groups, then write it on the board. 6) Display a picture for "Broadway Theater"; elicit the word by asking "What is the most famous theater in New York?" Drill chorally/ groups, then write it on the board. 7) Display a picture for hamburgers and french fries; elicit the word "fast food" by asking "What kind of food is it?". Then, ask CCQ "Is it healthy? NO" Drill chorally/ groups, then write it on the board.
1) Make sure to stand in a central position and get the ss attention. 2) Hold HO #1 up and ask the ss to answer 8 question quiz about USA by choosing phrases from the box. 3) Ask ICQs * How many questions are you going to answer? 8 * Are you going to use the box? YES 4) Demonstrate number 1 with them and make sure that they all get the correct answer. 5) Monitor to make sure they are on task and help. 6) Ask them to check their answers in pairs. 7) Give feedback by showing the answer key on the screen.
1) Make sure to stand in a central position and get the ss attention. 2) Ask ss to underline the adjectives and circle the nouns in the questions and the answers of the quiz. 3) Ask ICQs: * Are you going to search for adjectives only? NO * Are you going to circle nouns? YES * Are you going to search in the questions ONLY? NO 4) Demonstrate the first one with them. 5) Monitor and make sure they are on task; notice the words they struggle with as to teach in the next stage. 6) Ask them to check their answers in pairs. 7) Give them HO #2 answer key.
1) Make sure to stand in a central position and get the students attention. 2) Hold HO #3 up and ask the students to go through the answers of the quiz and circle the correct rule. 3) Ask ICQs: * Are you going to look at the quiz first? YES 4) Monitor them and make sure they are on task. 5) Change the pairs by asking one of the students to change his/her place. 6) Ask them to check their answers in pairs. 7) Give feedback on the board by highlighting the adjectives using a red marker in the following phrases: "American Airlines" "Pretty Woman" "Yellow taxis" 8) Elicit the answers of the questions and clarify the use/form of the adjectives by telling them that they come before nouns to describe them. a/an + adjective + singular noun adjective + Plural noun 9) Ask CCQs: * Can you use the adjectives to describe verbs? NO * Do adjectives change before plural nouns? NO * Can we add a/an before the adjectives with a plural noun? NO
1) Make sure to stand in a central position and get the students attention. 2) Hold HO #4 up; ask them to work in pairs and make 8 phrases (adjective + noun) for things in the picture. 3) Set the time 3 minutes 4) Ask ICQs: * Are you working in pairs or individually? In pairs * How many phrases are you going to make? 8 * Are you going to use adjectives and nouns? YES * How many minutes do you have for this task? 3 5) Demonstrate the first one with them. 6) Monitor and make sure they are on task and micro teach if needed; jot their mistakes and take notes 7) Give feedback on language by writing on the board the wrong phrases you heard and ask them to correct; write good phrases to praise as well.
