Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To introduce learners to new grammar which is about the role of 'ing' and 'ed' endings on adjectives. It can also be considered as vocabulary, because the students are going to learn some new vocabulary in the context of adjectives.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To practice speaking in the context of adjectives ending in 'ing' and 'ed', which are about feelings, and also they will practice speaking in the context of favourite leisure activities in their country.
Procedure (37-49 minutes)
I am going to introduce the subject 'adjectives' referring to what Tom had taught them in their previous lesson. He will be working on 'ing' form, and I will continue that and add 'ed' form as well. I will draw the simple drawing in TB on the board and make the difference between the two forms clear. Then I will drill some examples in order to get a better result.
I am going to put them in pairs, chest read exercise 2, and ask them to do it with their partner. Then they will listen to the CD to check their answers. I will chunk it when one dialogue is over to see if they are catching up or not.
The students are going to practice some productive skills in this activity. They have to complete the sentences given, so that they are true for them. Then I am going to ask them to talk about what they've written.
There are four columns that have to be filled. I will have all the word on cutouts so that they can stick it to the board. I am going to break the whole class into 4 groups, ask each group to complete the chart. Then I will ask one person from each group to come to the board and complete one column. In this case other students can correct any possible errors. This may be effective for visual learners. Then they will listen to the CD check their answers, and we will have some pronunciation practice as I am going to ask them to repeat each word to learn the pronunciation. Then in the same groups they are going to add 2 more examples for each column.
To work on their productive skills by speaking about the favourite leisure activities they have in their country. I will read the examples for them, then they will have time to speak in their groups.
I will write some adjectives ending with 'ed' or 'ing' on small pieces of paper. Then I will write some sentences using those adjectives. Then I'm gonna ask them to stand in the middle of the class, spread the words and sentences equally between them, then they have to find their match.
I am going to ask them to make sentences with adjectives, and also work on the words they don't know the meaning.
