Procedure (32-45 minutes)
To set the context I will hang a picture of my grandmother and a date on the right and the word "housewife" on the left. The aim of this is to engage students and to elicit questions from them about my grandmother. Is she your mother? How old is she? When was she born? what does she do? Then , I will ask the students to ask each other about their grandparents. Students will then watch a short video of Shirley Temple as a child, singing. I'll ask students a few questions about the girl in the video to arouse interest and engage them in the context of the lesson. Do you know who she is? What do you think is her job? How old do you think she is now?
Students will listen to the recording and complete the paragraph about Shirley Temple's life now. Peer feedback, then check their answers in the answer key that I will provide once they finish the task.
Students will then be given the grammar spot from the course book which they will answer individually, then check with their groups.
Whole class feedback of the language spot. Concept check the meaning of the past simple: Are the actions in the past? Are they finished? Do we know when they happened exactly? Drilling of the pronunciation of worked, started, danced, liked, retired. Eliciting the rule to forming the past simple for regular verbs
Students will be divided into three groups. Each group will be given two sets of cards one of the verbs in the infinitive, while the other is of the the past form of the verbs. Which group finishes the matching first.
Students will first complete the questions in exercise 6 (page 53 of the coursebook) by using text C which (depending on time, will either have it filled out and projected on the board, or fill it out themselves and have the correction projected on the board) in pairs. Students will then, practise asking and answering the questions, I will be monitoring and I'll provide correction where necessary,
