Description

In this lesson, students will learn about countable and uncountable nouns along with learning words.Some Ss might know the target words in this lesson, some of them might not. It starts with a review of food vocabulary which Ss stored in their mind. Then, T will get Ss engaged to do warm-up activity; preparing a number of anagrams of simple words that are used for food. Then, Ss will match the given words with the pictures. They will be again given a set of pictures and words in order for Ss to match them in group work. This activity will help Ss to be familiar with more words and to participate in the next stages of the lesson actively.After that, T will give a short explanation of countable and uncountable nouns,then, draw a grid on the board, divide into two parts to write countable and uncountable nouns separately. After showing a few examples, Ss will continue writing the examples of countable and uncountable nouns in a grid. Then, some CCQ will be asked selecting Ss randomly. After that, Ss will listen to a track to check their answers. At the same time, this listening activity aims at drilling food vocabulary. Ss will work in group and draw a grid on paper and divide the nouns, which are given in the handout, into countable and uncountable ones. T will check both groups. The last one, Ss will be asked to write a recipe of their favorite food then they will work in pairs. Some of the answers will be elicited.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Greeting T will announce today's topic Ss will be asked to guess the words written on the board. This activity is anagrams of simple words that are used for food. Once they have finished, they will be asked to categorise them into typical breakfast, lunch or dinner food.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ss will be asked to focus on the photos and talk about if there is anything there that they particularly like or don't like. Then, Ss will match the photos to the words in the box. They will check their answers in pair work.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

T will draw a table on the board writing countable and uncountable nouns in each. T will give a short explanation about countable and uncountable nouns. Then, Ss will continue doing this activity.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ss students will listen to the track and check their answers. Some CCQs will asked for students selecting randomly. Drilling will be the next activity to develop Ss' pronunciation.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss will given a handout including the pictures and names of food. They will have to match the words and pictures by individually. This activity will help Ss to enrich their vocabulary. Then, they will have to draw a table on a paper and divide the learnt vocabulary into parts; countable and uncountable nouns. They are going to work in small groups. All answers will be checked by T.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Ss will be given a key word to make a crossword. They will be divided into two groups. Each group will have to create their crosswords using countable and uncountable nouns with simple definitions.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will talk about their favorite meal, food or sweets. They will need to share the ingredients of their favorite ones. They will work in pairs.
