Description

In this lesson, students learn about regular adverbs and irregular adverbs through PPP.The lesson starts with a show pictures.

Main Aims

  • To provide regular and irregular adverbs and to use adverbs to talk and write about how you did thing in the past.

Subsidiary Aims

  • SS to used adverbs in the context of a song.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Invisible ball/ball memory name game Get students to stand in a circle. SS says their name then throws the ball. Repeat this a few times. To get students to try and remember each other s names they throw the ball and say the name of the person they are throwing the ball to. Repeat this a few times. Go round the circle and as a group they try and say each person s name.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

show pictures and sentences and SS matching sentences with pictures.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Revise the adverb quickly and slowly.Mime an action and ask what t am I doing?Repeat the action, this time doing it very slowly, and ask How am I doing it? Elicit slowly.Repeat with a different action, this time doing it very quickly. Ask SS to mime an action. Ask another child to give the instruction Quickly or Slowly.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (13-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Focus SS attention on the first grammar box (at the top) and ask them to identify the adverbs. Give SS a minute to read the examples silently. Ask them to explain how you form the adverb from the adjective. Elicit Add -ly or -ily Explain that the adverbs in the second grammar box are irregular and don't follow the same rule. Give children a minute to read the rule in the rule box silently. Ask two S to read the speech bubbles for the class.

Post-Reading/Listening (10-15 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ask and answer about the people in the pictures(page 34) Point to the first picture. Ask two S to read the speech bubbles for the class. Repeat with the whole class. Ask SS to tell you what they need to do in the exercise. Make sure they understand that they should ask two questions for each picture. S do the exercise in pairs. Monitor and help where necessary. Ask some of the pairs to ask and answer their sentences for the class.
