Shopping clothes

Description

In this lesson, students will practice the functional language of shopping. First, I will tell the students a story of mine to elicit new words. Then, I will clarify the relation between the shop assistant and the customer. Then, students will practice how to give information about the item they want to buy. Finally, the students will role play the conversation between the customer and the shop assistant.

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of the vocabulary used during shopping

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice the vocabulary used in conversation between sellers and customers to improve fluency in speaking.

Procedure

Lead-in (4-5 minutes) • To generate interest in the topic of the lesson.

I will come to class with shopping bags and tell students " I went to mall of Arabia and bought lots of things because...", I will try to elicit the word shopping. I will ask them if they kike shopping too.

Exposure and highlight (7-9 minutes) • To provide a context for the TL and draw Ss attention to the TL.

I will stick a picture on the board and try to elicit the word 'shop assistant' and stick another word to elicit the word 'customer'. I will ask students CCQs:Is the customer working in the store? (No) Who is the shop assistant helping? (customer) Are they friends? (No) I will drill the two word then write them on the board.

Highlight (5-7 minutes) • to draw students' attention to the target language within context of clothes shopping.

I will give the students the conversation in jumbled order and ask them to put them in the correct order. when they are finished, I will ask them to check their answers in pairs, then I will check the answers with the whole class.

Clarification (8-9 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language.

I will divide the board into two sides; shop assistant and customer. I will ask students to stick the sentences related to the customer on its side and vice versa. I will drill the difficult words and then ask them to repeat

Controlled practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice.

I will chest the handout and tell the students to read the sentence and fill the gaps with words in the box. When they are finished, I will ask them to check in pairs and then I will review the answers with the whole class.

Freer practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide fluency speaking of the TL about clothes shopping.

I will divide the class into two. One group will be the shop assistant and the other group will be the customer. I will give some realias to the shop assistants to sell.Customers buy clothes by using the functional language they have learned then Ss switch their roles.I will monitor and take notes.

Feedback (5-6 minutes) • to deal with students mistake on the board

I will praise the students performance during the lesson then I will write students' mistake on the board and ask them to correct them
