TP7- How much is it?

Description

In this lesson, students learn about asking for things during the shopping. The lesson starts with some visuals related to currencies. Then the students will match the learnt currency. After that, students will clarify and practice asking 'how much' to learn prices. They have a role-play activitiy at the end of the lesson as a WC activity.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice functional language of asking for things in a department store within the context of shopping

Subsidiary Aims

  • To practice speaking for fluency using of the language related to shopping

Procedure

Lead in / Warmer (4-6 minutes) • To set the lesson context and engage students with it

T will show the currency symbols printed on flashcards. T will elicit the words from the Ss. T will stick the flashcards on the WB. After that T will ask some of the Ss to put the words on the WB according to the flashcards.

Matching Activity (3-4 minutes) • To provide students with practicing the former stage

T will chest the HO. Ask Ss to match the words with the pictures. Then T will ask the students to peer-check. If there is a struggling word, T will clarify it as a feedback.

Presenting the target language (8-10 minutes) • To provide the students with the functional language by making the context and clarify the relationship between the speakers

T will show the picture for customer and shop assistant. T will elicit ideas from the Ss as to who are they. Asking them some CCQs related to why they are there, what are they doing. T will ask if they speak in a good way or in a bad way to clarify the politeness. T will elicit ideas from the Ss about the dialogue between the customer and shop assistant. T will stick the picture and will elicit what they are talking about. Then T will elicit ''How much is it?'' by writing '' $ ? '' on the WB. T will drill the conversation by dividing the class into two using disappearing dialogue activity. Then T will ask students to work in pairs and ask the prices of the stuffs to each other.

Fill in the gaps activity (5-7 minutes) • To provide students a controlled practice on TL

T will show the visuals for 'changing room' 'bag' and 'credit card' and elicit them from the Ss. T will ask some CCQ for them. Then T will chest the HO and give instructions. The Ss will check in pairs after they finish. Then T will play the record as feedback.

Who says it? activity (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with a controlled practice on TL

T will chest the HO then ask Ss to write either C (customer) or SA (shop assistant) according to the sentences. T will ask some ICQs to check the Ss. - Does customer say 'Can I help you?' ? No. - Does shop assistant say ' How much is it? No. - Does customer say 'How much is it?' Yes. (Pointing the shop assistant and customer in the picture) After the Ss are done with the task, T will ask to check in pairs. T will then elicit the answers from the Ss and write a simple dialogue for customer and shop assistant to the Wb. Drill the dialogue by using disappearing dialogue activity.

Speaking Activity- Role Play (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with a freer speaking practice using the TL

T will HO the different flashcards which stands for the goods and will ask Ss to determine a price for them and write on the flashcards. T will demonstrate on one goods. After they are done, T will determine them as customers and shop assistants then will ask Ss to stand up and make two lines facing to each other. They will practice the dialogue according to the flashcards. Then will change partners. They will perform both customer and shop assistant in turn. T will then ask what they have bought.
