Procedure (37-49 minutes)
I will hang some pictures of historical figures on the board and elicit from them the figures name and jobs. I will hang a photo Mandela and ask them about his name and what do they know about him. I will tell students that they are going to know more information about Mandela today.
I will check if the Ss know the difficult words in the reading passage by giving them a matching exercise. I will let them check their answers in pairs and then with the whole class. After that I will drill the words. I will give the student the text and ask them to read it carefully to find the answers of the Qs below, I will ask them to check in pairs when they are finished, then I will check with them as a whole class.
I will write a sentence from the text on the board, he finished university in 1943. I will ask CCQ: is the action in the past?, is the action finished?, do we know when it was finished?
I will instruct ss to exercise 2 that they will read the text and find the Past Simple tense of the verbs in the boxes. I will give them a clarification by doing the first example by myself. when they are finished I will ask them to check in pairs and then I will draw a table on the board and ask them to fill it with their answers. I will highlight the verbs endings for 'study, marry, stay' (consonant + y: -ied, vowel + y: -ed). I will clean the board, and drill the verbs then ask them to repeat.
I will chest the paper of exercise 3 and explain to the students that they are going to fill the gaps by the words in the table. when they are done, I will ask them to check in pairs then I will provide them with a key answer.
I will ask students to talk about one of their family members based on their past. I will listen to the students and take notes about their performance.
I will first praise the students' performance and then I will write their mistakes on the board and ask them to correct these mistakes.
