In this lesson, sts learn about the reported speech based on a reading text. Sts listen and check answers to questions related to reported speech. The lesson includes some activities to be done in pairs.

Procedure (45-59 minutes)
Warmer/Lead-in: T talks about what other people said about what happened to him when he first came to Istanbul (3-5 minutes) • To use the reported speech
Sts read a text about some coincidences people face in their lives. Then sts listen to the same text and guess what happened to them
Exposure to a reading text and a listening task (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation
Sts read and answer questions. Sts listen and add more information
Highlighting the use of reported statements (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language
T gives some direct speech senetences on the board to be changed to reported speech.
Clarification of form of reported speech senetences. (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language
Sts change some sentences into reported speech on the board.
Controlled Practice of direct speech sentences on sheets of paper. (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice
T monitors while they ate answering the sentences.
Semi-Controlled Practice of changing sentences working in pairs (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice
T lets sts work on their own
Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language
Sts work freely to write a paragraph about a coincidence they had before.
