Speaking and recommendation lesson
Intermediate level

Description

In this lesson, the students will learn about describing travel destinations in detail and ask for recommendations.They need to speak about why they recommend those places they picked up and to use the useful language for describing places, recommending and questions to ask about a place. The students gain awareness about which expressions they need to use for describing and recommending places. Then, the students in pairs try to act out some conversations to each other. While doing so, the teacher monitors the students and correct the errors if there are any at the end of the class.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher will ask students if they went somewhere in the weekend and ask them to recommend interesting places to visit in Turkey.

Clarification (6-8 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

The teacher asks students to give examples using the new word and see if they understood its meaning, when to use it and its correct pronunciation.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The teacher gives ICQ's and then the handouts. Students make sentences with the target language, they first decide on places they have been to and then write five sentences recommending those places in their country or a city.

Semi-Controlled Practice (10-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Students will make notes on why they have written and recommended those places, share their ideas in pairs and then decide what will they say about each place using the useful language box.

Free Practice (10-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

At the end of the lesson students will act out conversations about the places they have recommended and what is it like to stay there using the useful language box. To lighten up the atmosphere students will vote in order to choose the best pair work.
