Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide Present simple tense for the third person singular in the context of speaking about routines and daily activities.
Subsidiary Aims
-
They will learn some new verbs with which to speak about routines of other people and their family.
Procedure (35-49 minutes)
I will stand in class and hold a paper ball in my hand. I will say a sentence and throw the ball at a particular student. He or she is expected to say one sentence about one of their classmates, such as "she has blond hair" and so on.
1- Introduce them to how they can form WH-questions using 3rd person present tense. 2- How we add -s with (he/she/it) 3- Writes on the board "my brother" and gives students some facts about his life through elicitation. Then writes some model sentences and presents the grammar regarding 3rd person singular s on the board including the negative form. My brother studies IT. CCQs: Does he study now? yes. Does he go to university every week? yes. Is his university finished? no. My brother teaches football. CCQs: Is it his job? yes. Does he teach football now? yes
I will gives the students handouts regarding 3rd person grammar and asks them to read it in pairs and then get feedback, by making them elicit similar questions when asking their classmates. Then I will play an audio script in order to drill pronunciation and information.
I write the following sentences on the board: 1- I read → she..... 2- I walk → he...... 3- I play → he....... 4- I say → she....... 5- I study → he..... 6- I fly → it........ The language analysis for the first 4 sentences is simply the present base form of the verb and when talking about the 3rd person students simply need to add -s at the end. However in the case of sentences 5 and 6 words ending with a constant + y have an -ies form at the end
I will give the students another handout and ask them to complete it individually and then check their answers in pairs. CCQs: 1. alone or together? alone 2. Do we check the answers together? yes I then write the answers on the whiteboard.
Students are asked to speak about their best friend or a family member to their peers and describe their routines. I will monitor them and possibly write down a couple of errors they make and notifies them afterwards. Might get feedback via a couple of students.
