To provide clarification and practice of past simple and present perfect in the context of students' hometown, school, company and country

To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of changes in students' hometown, school, company and country
Procedure (90-90 minutes)
Students play Memory in pairs. The teacher elicits the answers from the class.
With books closed board the sentences used as examples on pg 27 of ML Intermediate
Elicit other examples of sentences for each tense and discuss why they should be that tense and not the other.
Students fill in the blanks with the correct verb form using the words that are in parenthesis. Students peer check and then the teacher elicits the answers from the whole class.
Students mingle and find people who match the descriptions. They write down what was said and who said it. Teacher monitors and gives feedback to class
Students discuss in groups of 3-4 changes that have happened in their hometown, school, company and country. Each group then shares with the class what changes discussed. Feedback is then given by peers and the teacher. (Adapted from "C" on pg 26 of ML Intermediate.)
