Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice realtive clauses in the context FIRST BOOKS

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice with definig ,nondefining and reduced realtive clauses

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context ,engage students and activate their schemta

play a short movie named CECELIA AHEM welcome and STEPHEN KING,have them watch and based on the reading context they were in ask them to share as much as information they have taken from the movie integrating with previous reading(reading text they have from previous session) with their partner ,monitor them and help when needed, a whole class FB will be given .

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Put them in groups of three ,each group with one paper divided in two columns and each column with a sample sentence (one column defining clauses and one column non-defining clauses) monitor and help when needed ,then swap the group members to check their answers with other group members as group check .CF will be shown on a slide on the board.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Have them first task to do individually and check their answers in pairs and give them the FB. They choose the best answer .CCQs are given .Does defining relative clause give the information you need?yes Does non-defining relative clause give the information you need ?no then give them to marker sentences on the board (defining &non-defining ) and practice their pronunciation. Second task is given to answer individually,peer check is done and FB is done bt nominating two students . next task is handed and they are supposed to work in pair for two to three minutes and answer.monitor and help when needed.Class FB is shown on the board and they check thir answers. another task is given with three questions about non-defining clauses to work in pair and answer.this time change their pairs.do the task ,check with their neighbor pair . for the next stage they will have another activity to do do and this time in group .do the task then FB with boarding and asking why questions.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

will be given a reading text about STIEG LARSON'S first book .they need to read the text and fill in the gaps with who,which,etc and one gap doesn't need a word.do the exercise individually check in pair and the answer key will be handed and boarded at the same time to check.any more clarification needed will be given.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

for this stage,they are asked to do an exercise to match some sentences to make defining ,non-defining and reduced relative clauses . put them in pair and have them do it ,monitor ad help when needed .peer check will be done with neighbor peers and finally answers will be shown on the board as FB and ask them to ask their questions .

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

divide the class in two groups (A&B) .each student in A will be given an extract of a story and they are asked to work with a student from group A to complete the story with non-defining relative clauses and then finish the story in their own way .when done work with a student from group B and take turn to read out or tell their stories .Same thing happens with group B. TO WRAP UP,ASK THEM TO ASK THEIR PROBABLE QUESTIONS .
