Description

in this lesson students review the simple present tense based on a reading text about physically disabled people. the lesson starts with a discussion a bout physically disabled people.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about daily routines in the context of sport
  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about success of physically disabled people in sport in the context of sport

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a daily routines in the context of daily routines

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

the T shows a video to Ss and asks some questions from them.what do you understand from this video? have you ever seen a person who is physically disabled in your family or friends? are they successful in their life?do they play professional sport? do you think disability is a barrier in sport? how can disabled athletes be encouraged?

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

the T asks the Ss to fold the text of reading and read part A for a gist.(skim the text). then the T asks some questions from Ss .what do you understand a bout him? has he been disabled since birth or not? how he became disabled? the T asks the Ss to read part B and asks the same Questions.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

the T asks the Ss to read the text in details(scan the text) in pairs. one of the students must reads part A and the other one must reads part B and then they should explain to each other what ever they understand.then Ss should check difficult vocabulary that they don't know.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

each person should read one paragraph of a text and check the vocabulary with a T.then the T gives an activity about Mark zupan and Bethany Hamilton and they should filling the blank with appropriate form.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Ss task is to write about their daily routine and describe to their classmates.
