Procedure (35-45 minutes)
- T projects on WB 3 photos and ask Ss to imagine who these people are and what they might be talking about. Ss discuss in pairs. -T check Ss understanding of the "greeting" - T then writes the descriptions 1-3 on the WB -Ss work in pairs to match the descriptions to the photos. -T gives FB and checks with WC
- T asks the Ss to work in pairs and elicit some ideas for questions for each situation presented. -T circulates to see the sorts of questions Ss are thinking. T notes down any common problem that will be exemplified in the clarification stage - T plays audio 1.1. so as to expose students to different types of questions before they study question forms. -Ss individually match the conversations with the situation in exercise 1(a) -Ss then check in pairs and then as WC -T does not elicit what the questions were at this stage
- T says "Who is coming with us?" and "How long have you been waiting?", and ask Ss to clarify which one is a question word and questions phrase. -Ask CCQ: Does a phrase consists of more than one words? (y), Is the questions word or phrase placed at the beginning of the sentence? (y) -T instructs Ss to work in pairs and to come up with as many question words or phrases they can.(slide 4) -T elicit SS answers and write them on the board, checks with Slide 5. - T gives a situation, and elicit "Your friend is asking you about the kind of music you listen to. How will your friend ask you this as a question?" --> What kind of music do you listen to? - T concept check: "Is this in the present simple? (Y); Am I using a Wh-word or a Wh-phrase here?"; "Where does the Wh- phrase come in the sentence, at the beginning or at the end?" - T drills with " What kind of music do you listen to" then use substitution drill with "songs, audio book, news" then drills with "play, record, compose". -T writes the MS on the board and gives grammar clarification. Marking the stress on the words.
-T asks SS to work in pairs for the following exercise. They have to order the words in 6 sentences correctly forming questions. - T monitors during this activity -T shows the correction on PPT slide.
-T divide the students into pairs A and B and give each student a corresponding part of the worksheet. -Each S keeps his worksheet secret -Student A starts by reading the first answer on their worksheet to student B -Student B listens and tries to guess the question on the worksheet of student A -If student B guesses incorrectly, they keep trying until hey manage to guess the question. -Student B then reads out his first answer and student A tries to guess the questions The SS continue taking turns to read out answers until all questions have been guessed. T does some delayed correction and fives feedback on the board
