Intermediate, A3 level
Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide clarification of first conditional in the context of exams
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide gist listening practice using a text about what people will do if they get results of their exams.
Procedure (31-45 minutes)
In this stage, I will personalize a situation in which I talk about the things that I will do if I pass/ don't pass the course.
In this stage, the students will listen to 2 people who have recently taken exams. They talk about the things they will do after getting the results. First, they will listen to Olivia and try to answer the gist question (What will Olivia do if she doesn't get the grades she needs?) Then they will listen to Tomasz and answer the gist question (What will Tomasz do if he doesn't get a 6.5?) If they don't get the answers from the listening, they will be given the scripts to find the answers.
In this stage, the students are given the scripts and will find the conditional sentences with "if" in pairs. (Affirmative, negative and question). They will be asked some concept check questions.
The students will see an affirmative, negative and question form of a conditional sentence on the board. I will focus on the meaning, form and pronunciation through the examples.
They will be given handout containing 5 sentences that they will complete using the given verbs in the correct tense. They will compare their answers in pairs and then with the board.
They will listen to the last part of the listening and try to say what results Olivia and Tomasz have got and what they are going to do. They will be given the script if necessary.
They will discuss the given questions in pairs or groups and share their ideas.
