Materials

Main Aims

  • To discuss society and change and how it affects our lives and what has been said and done in the past and what is here now and what is beiong said and what we will see in the future.

Subsidiary Aims

  • They will be familiar with predictions, hypothetical possibilities and various terms such as life expectancy, gravity and more.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

they will discuss what is society and change and I will elicit what they think it is and write it on the board. I will get write pieces of paper with predictions and put them on the WB and get the students to put them in two sections one being true and the other being false. Ss will discuss the predictions and tell each other, which is the worst and the funniest. Also to ask students if they know of any other predictions that were wrong.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will get write pieces of paper with predictions and put them on the WB and get the students to put them in two sections one being true and the other being false. Ss will discuss the predictions and tell each other, which is the worst and the funniest. Also to ask students if they know of any other predictions that were wrong. this is the warmer and the exposure.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ss will discuss the term life expectancy and what it means and if they have heard or seen any predictions regarding this. they will also do the same for space travel and robots. So they will work on this in pairs and come up with ideas with what they mean.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I'm going to get them to think of a sentence regarding life expectancy and get them to put it in a sentence. We will then discuss what the form is what questions can be asked regarding it and what the stress is, I may not do this in the middle but I hope to do so at some stage.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Ss will read 3 articles in three groups and convey back what each article is about to the rest of the class. then they will look at question 2 and answer the questions. After that, they will releigh back their answers to the rest of the class. Question 3 will be next to where they will look at the words ion bold and discuss what they mean in pairs and then they will as a class discuss what they mean. They will then discuss if the statements in question 2 are what the scientists agree with or not. so are they the same as what they said or different. we will then discuss this together as a class. The last question will be discussed in pairs and are varied.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Question 3 will be next where they will look at the words ion bold and discuss what they mean in pairs and then they will as a class discuss what they mean. They will then discuss if the statements in question 2 are what the scientists agree with or not. so are they the same as what they said or different. we will then discuss this together as a class. Here will try to give them a little freedom to discuss what they feel is important and what is not as important to them.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In the end, I will ask them to make their own predictions for the future. Ones they would like to happen and or in an ideal world what they would want. This with the beginning will be a free practice and I will incorporate a game at the beginning one team against another where they will put stickers on the board in where they feel the sentences I have put together should go.
