In this lesson the students are going to learn new vocabularies in the context of 'work'. They are going to have speaking, and reading time to practice more on the target language.

Main Aims

  • To introduce students the new vocabulary about work in the context of reading and listening.

  • To provide more practice on the target language, in context of reading, about work.

Procedure

Warmer/ Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I am going to introduce the subject 'work', then I am going to ask them about the jobs and experiences they have had. This will be a whole class activity, which the students should speak and engage with the topic.

Exposure (10-12 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through an activity

I am going to write activity 1 on the board. I have the answers on individual sheets of paper. The students are going to take a look at the activity individually, then I will ask who knows the correct answer of each blank, and they should without saying a word just raise their hands. The one who knows comes to the board and stick the correct answer to the board, and I will ask the other students if the answer is correct or not.

Exercise 2 (10-15 minutes)

I am going to give the instruction, ICQ, and then give them the first hand outs to fill in the blanks with a proper word.then they are going to listen to the CD to know the correct answers and they'll check their answers with each other. After that I am going to give them a text, they have to read that and find out what the woman in this text, and the woman in the previous activity have in common.

Reading (10-12 minutes) • More practice on the subject in the context of reading

I am going to give the hand outs of question 2, which is True or False practice. They will have time to read the text and answer the questions. Then I will check the answers with the whole class.

Speaking (6-8 minutes) • semi controlled activity

The students are going to talk about unemployment benefit. If they don't know the meaning of the word, I am going to explain it by eliciting. Then they are going to work with a partner and write 5 possible ways to solve any unemployment problem in their country. I will do Pyramiding to peer check their answers.
