Main Aims

  • To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about fake news

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of why people make fake news

Procedure

lead in (5-7 minutes) • to engage the students and create a need for the lesson

1- tell them "imagine that you are writers i need from you to write fake news on this journal "and give them 2 minutes to write 2- give the students Ho1 3- after 2 minutes ask them discuss in pairs about what they wrote 4- ask them to tell you what they wrote

pre-reading (5-10 minutes) • - to teach them some new vocabulary - to generate interest in the text and motivate students to read it

1- ask them some ICQ questions to give the students the new words in sopken form ( bombard-subtle-fooled- unrelated ) 2- write the new words on the board with mentioning the stressed syllable and the part of speech with different colored markers 3- ask students to repeat the new words after you 4- ask ccq questions to check if they got the meanings of the new words of not 5 - ask students this question " what is the funniest fake news that you have ever heard " 6- listen to the students answer

while - reading 1 (10-15 minutes) • to provide students with less challenging reading for gist

1- tell students a brief about the text 2- tell them what they are going to do and give them HO2 and the pieces of paper attached 3- ask them to check their answers in pairs 4- give them the feedback

while-raeding2 (7-10 minutes) • to provide students with more challenging detailed reading task

1- ask the students to answer the questions in Ho3 individually 2- give them the HO3 3- ask them to check their answers in pairs 4- give them the feedback

post-reading (7-10 minutes) • to provide students with opportunity to respond to the text productively

1- ask them to think about some reasons why do these people make fake news 2- give them 2 minutes to think and write 3 - ask them to stand up and in each two will speak together about these reasons 4 - each 1 minute ask them to speak with another one
