In this lesson students will learn about the history of pizza, discos, and karaoke .The lesson starts with a lead-in stage by which students will be engaged in the lesson ; they will be asked to mention some activities they do when they go out with friends .Then, they will skim to get the overall idea of the text. After that ,the teacher pre-teaches the most needed words. Next, they will scan to locate some specific information. Finally, they will practice speaking.

Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson students will be able to skim a text to get the main idea and scan to locate some specific information related to the history of pizza, discos , and karaoke.

Procedure

Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher asks students about things they like doing when they go out with friends and elicit as many phrases as possible.Next, he shows some pictures and asks which of those do you do if you go out ? answers * I go out for a coffee . * I have dinner in a restaurant. * I go for a walk .

Pre-teach vocabulary (4-5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text where they will notice language in context

The teacher will give handouts to students contain some new words in one column and their meanings in another column .Then , he asks them to match each word with the right definition guessing the meaning . They will work in pairs .After that , they can check their answers with another partner . Then, the teacher shows the answers .

The teacher asks students to read the first paragraph and find three activities
