Description

In this lesson, students learn about shapes and shape-related adjectives based on the picture dictionary. The lesson starts with a guessing game to activate prior knowledge. This is followed by activities to practice spelling, pronunciation, and meaning. Finally, there are some group activities to create shapes with their own bodies that involve cooperation between the students, and also practice shape formation with thread. Target vocabulary: circle, triangle, line, pentagon, square, rectangle, dot, star, diamond, sector Target sentence patterns: I can draw a circle. A big circle.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (6-8 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The teacher introduces the shapes with realia to show how to recognize shapes if an object taken from daily life is shown. Students guess the shapes and recreate them using hand gestures.

Exposure (10-12 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text and learn the target vocabulary

Melody Picture Dictionary p. 15-16. Students point to and repeat the target vocabulary. Activity2: Group work, students sit in line and draw the shape on the whiteboard they hear. Activity2: Students learn the spelling then repeat the previous activity with writing.

Highlighting (13-15 minutes) • Controlled project-based activity to learn the vocabulary and associated adjectives

Activity 1. Group work in which students form shapes with threads. Activity2. A picture drawing activity in which students draw people and objects by shapes. The content of the picture is told by the teacher, students draw by following the description. Activity3. In this productive practice, students will describe their own drawing using previously learned vocabulary + the target vocabulary and sentence patterns.

Free Practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

In this activity, students position themselves to create the shape that the teacher calls out, group work.

Review and closing (13-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation and review

Review activity: word search activity is given to the student to find the target vocabulary In the remaining time, students make an origami to practice the target vocabulary and sentence pattern in varied context.
