Procedure (30-45 minutes)
Pass hand out p.18 Explain ex1 instructions. Stick the vocabulary flash cards on the white board using magnets. Write on the board certain and uncertain.Say in a very firm voice ," I'm convinced ." Ask students if "convinced" should go in the certain or uncertain column. Ask students to discuss in pairs categorizing the flash cards into the two columns. Take FB. Drill the words.
Tell student to go to ex 2 p.18. Tell students to read the sentences through once quickly. They then read them again, and complete the second sentence so it means the same. Go through the example if you think the class has not understood.Check answers in open class.
Hand out workbook p U2 p.9 Explain to students the instructions in ex 1B Tell students to refer to the whiteboard to select words to fill in the gaps in each sentence. Discuss in pairs the answers. Give answer key for check.
Hand out white A4 papers. Tell students about the speaking activity instructions. Tell Ss they are going to play a game to see how well they can lie,and how certain they are about each other's honesty. Ask each student to write 3 sentences about him/her self .These sentences can be true or a lie. In pairs Ss ask each other questions to help them know if these sentence are true or a lie.
After game, Ss sit back together and compare who they talked to and decide who was lying or telling the truth and why. Encourage them to use the vocabulary for showing certainty when they explain. Get some general FB and them find out who was right
