Description

In this lesson students will learn about using linking words and phrases for writing paragraphs through some exercises. The lesson starts with a discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of being rich.This followed by an exercise where they can classify the linking words.Then I will clarify the language by an exercise depends on the Ss. Then the controlled and the free practice of writing as a production stage.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide students to develop their skill of writing using cohesive devices in the context of " mobile phones"

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of cohesive devices.

Procedure

Warmer/lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

I will ask the Ss about the advantages and disadvantages of being rich ? I will show them a picture of a famous rich Egyptian man. I will ask them to write down their ideas on some papers. Ss will discuss together 5 points on the book then I will give them the feedback.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

I will ask Ss to underline the linkers in an exercise. Then I will put 4 categories on the the board and Ss have to classify the linkers under these categories. Then I will give them the feedback. I will give them an exercise to test their background of the form.

Teach (5-7 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

I will elicit the form of using these linkers from the students. I will drill the pronunciation of each word.

Test #2 (5-8 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Ss will choose the best linkers in the context of mobile phones. Check it in pairs. Give them the feedback.

Free practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language by asking them to write a paragraph and use the linkers.

I will ask the students to check their ideas that they wrote it at the beginning of the class and write a paragraph of their opinions of using mobile phones in public places by using the linkers that they have taught it during the class. I will ask them to check their friends' answers and give me the feedback. Then I will give them my feedback at the end.
