Pre-IELTS 2 level
Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide clarification and practice of the second conditional in the context of Luck
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide gist and detailed reading practice using a text about luck in order to highlight the second conditional sentences in the context of Luck
Procedure (45-60 minutes)
Talk about the luckiest and unluckiest day that they have ever had
Students will be asked to read a text in the context of luck and try to get the gist of the text and learn how to talk about imaginary situations.
The students will be asked to find sentences with "if" and the teacher will write one sentence from the text on the board to highlight it for the students.
After the sentence is written, the teacher will try to elicit the form of the sentence and then asks the students if they know when and why we use this form in the text. After that, they will practice the pronunciation of the sentences orally.
The students will be asked to complete some sentences with the correct form of the verbs that they can see at the end of each sentence. Then they will check with each other and after that, there could be whole class feedback.
In this exercise, the students will make second conditional sentences using the information which they have for each sentence. Again there will be a pairwork check and then whole class check.
In the free practice part, they will be asked that " what would they do, if they had a free year and a lot of money?" they will start speaking in pairs and as speaking is not the aim of this lesson after a few minutes they will talk about their partner to the whole class.
