In this lesson the Ss will have time to practice their speaking and listening skills in the context of travelling.

Main Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a discussion in the context of travelling

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide specific information and detailed listening practice using a text about air travel

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

- Have the word 'Travel' on the board. Start a discussion with Ss on What does it mean. . . - Go on to 2nd slide, with photos of travelling options. Go over the pictures. . . - Ask Ss which way do they prefer to travel?. . . - Go onto slide 3 with photos and words: convenient, cost, speed, danger. . . -Give Ss Hand out for vocabulary matching. . . - Have Ss do peer check then go over answers as a whole class. .

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

- Have photo of an airport on the board. Ask Ss where is this? What happens here? . . - Have Ss in groups discus and put in order things that happen in an airport when you arrive till you get on a flight. . . - Go over ideas as a whole class. . .

Task (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

- Have Ss stand up and walk around the room to look at photos put on the wall. Tell them to look at the photos and discuss with their peers what they think is happening. . . - Ss do listening task. . . - Ss put photos in order in groups. . . - Go over answers as a whole class having Ss put the photos on the wall in order, on the board. . . - Have Ss talk about their reactions to the story.

Language Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with practice of the task language

- Tell Ss to think about a journey they said that may have gone wrong or was interesting for them. . . - Give time for Ss to come up with their ideas. . . - Have Ss get into groups and tell each other their stories. . . - Once everyone has told a story elicit some Ss to share their favourite story they heard.
