Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher will introduce the topic by showing the cell phone and ask them some questions.( teacher finds out how many students in the class are carrying a cell phone and which cell phone is the most popular one. take the opportunity to make sure everybody's cell phone is turned off!) Students should work in pairs and ask these questions: how long have you had it? what do use your cell phone for? where / when should you turn off your cell phone? ( to reduce the TTT , teacher will write the questions on the board) Teacher monitors the class and asks for one or two answers.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Teacher shows some pictures( a person who talks on the phone loudly in a bus) and asks some questions to direct the students to the marker sentences; you must/have to turn of your phone on a plane. you should talk quietly in public places. you don't have to turn off your phone in the bank. teacher asks some questions to clarify the meaning. (CCQs); can you use your cell phone on a plane? ( no) is it optional or obligation? (obligation) can you talk on the phone in a bus or public place? (yes) is it annoying if you talk loudly on the phone? (yes) is it better to talk on the phone quietly? (yes) can you use your cell phone in the bank? (yes) should you turn it off? (no)

Controlled practice (5-8 minutes) • To have more practice on form

Teacher gives the students the handouts including a chart about modal verbs. they work in pairs and complete the chart teacher will give feedback and check the answers with whole class.

Controlled Practice (5-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Teacher will give a hand out to the students about using cell phones they fill the gaps with the appropriate form of the modals verbs and the main verbs considering the meaning to make the rules.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Teacher divides the students into different groups .Each group has a topic. they should use the modal verbs . they will talk about; how to be a good public speaker how to be good student/teacher how to be a good mother/father how to be a good wife/husband teacher will ask about their ideas. error correction if it is needed
