To provide process writing practice of simple sentences in the context of home town.
Procedure (32-45 minutes)
Ss will see a picture from presentation and talk in pairs about what they remember from the text they listened in previous lesson. 1m Instruction: Look at the picture. What do you remember? What was the story? Talk about it with your friend. Monitor to check how much they remember and how much they use English Ask what was the story about. Elicit "Hometown" from ss using the picture. 1m
Intro: Now we are going to read a text about Henry talking about his hometown. But, we are doing it with a test. Do this test alone. If you don't know the answer don't worry. ICQ: Do we do the test with our friend? Monitor to check which ss know the subject and what are their weaknesses. 4m When most ss finish the test ask them to put the paper away. We will come back to that later.
Ss will read the text fromprevious lesson on handout1 and underline all the examples of there's and there are in the text. 1m Ss compare answers in pairs and notice if these phrases are followed by a, an, some, or a number (1, 2, 3, ... ). 2m Write these words on the board for ss to find. Ss will discuss in pairs when we use there's and there are. Monitor and give FB Elicit and show on the board when we use there's and there are.
Elicit the meaning and drill for (a, an, some, a lot of) from th the pictures on the presentation. 1m Ss will do activity 4b from the Handout1 and check the answers in pairs. 3m Get the answers on the board and elicit that these sentences are positive. Drill for pronunciation (there's and there are) Elicit the negative form of using (there's and there are) Use different examples to clarify. Get ss to write the sentences on the board. 3m Ss will use 3 sentences from the same exercise to rewrite them into negative form. Ask Ss to come to the board and write. 2m Monitor and give FB, error correction if necessary
Ss will work in groups to practice EX5a orally together Show a demonstration of how to do the activity on the presentation. Give each sentece in small piece of paper to every person in both groups. Ss will show their sentence to others and the other person will fill the gap and answer. They will continue until they asked their sentence to every member in their group and everyone asked them. 4m Monitor, give FB and error correction if necessary
Ss will play a game as competition between with two groups. The groups will be red and blue based on their marker color. Every group will have just one marker to answer EX6a on presentation. Each student will answer just one sentence, return to his/her sit and give the marker to the next person to the next one. As they answer, teacher will reveal the next sentence from presentation. The first group finishes with the most correct answers will win. 2m When itis finished each group can correct their own sentences. Control the answers at the end Monitor and give FB, correct the errors as W/C 1m
Ask ss to bring the test paper again. Ss will check and correct their answers if necessary. 3m Instructions: Now take out the test papers. Check your answers and correct them. Ss will check their answers with their partners. 1m Ss will check the answer key from the presentation. 1m Monitor for FB and error corrections
Ss will do EX7 & 8 write sentences about a town or city you know (maybe their parents or they visited). Use the model sentences from previous exercises to help. 2m Ss will share their answers with their partners. 2m If there was enough time Ss will share two sentences from their partner. 2m Monitor and FB. error correction if necessary
