To provide Ss specific information listening practice using a text about what people do to pass time in the context of airports/traveling.

To provide Ss fluency speaking practice in a interview and discussion in the context of airports and traveling.
Procedure (37-47 minutes)
Show a picture of the New Istanbul Airport. In pairs, students discuss the following questions: Have you flown into the new Istanbul airport? Do you like travelling? Why or why not? Do you like airports/flying? Why or why not? Elicit feedback: Has anyone flown into the New Ist Airport, how was it?
Have students look at activity 3a and circle the ones they like to do while they wait in airports. (2-3 min) Have them check their answers in pairs. (2 min) Do some whole class feedback to see what the students like to do while they wait. (2-3 min) Elicit from students briefly where else they could be waiting apart from airports (bus/train stations). Check meaning for people-watch and other problem words that come up. (2-3 min)
Prepare students for the text by letting them know that it's a radio news reporter interviewing different people. There will be six different speakers. (1 min) Have the students listen to the recording and doing activity 4a, checking off the things people waiting at an airport talk about. (3 min) (read, do some shopping, phone family, work or study, people-watch, have a meal) Have students peer check. (2 min) W/c feedback on the board. (1-2 min)
Turn students attention to activity 4b. Give them time to read through the sentences (2-3 min). Listen to the recording and have students fill in the blank. (3 min) Quick peer check (1 min) Listen again to check answers. (3 min) Quick peer check (1 min) Have students come up to the board and write the answers to the questions. (2 min)
Have students look through a worksheet of interview questions. First, write down answers to the questions for themselves. (3-4 min) Regroup students into pairs and have them interview each other, making notes about their partner's responses. (4-5 min) (If time) Then put them into small groups to discuss what themes or patterns they saw. (3-4 min) What do most people like doing in the airport.. Who has missed a flight... where do you want to go to next... Whole class feedback - elicit some responses from students in regards to the interview questions. (3-4 min)
