Main Aims

  • This is an integrated skills lesson practicing reading and speaking skills based on the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty. By the end of the lesson students will have practiced controlled and less guided speaking practice leading into a dramatization of the story.

Subsidiary Aims

  • Sts will have been introduced to and practiced the target lexi related to the story of Sleeping Beauty. In addition they raise their awareness on noun – adjective relationships such as beauty – beautiful and practise the structure: I am giving the gift of …(noun)..so she will always be ….(adjective). To raise awareness of the use of ‘present simple’ for telling a story.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show pictures of film posters. Elicit genres - horror, adventure, etc Drill and write on w/b. Brainstorm lexis related to films. (H/O 1).

Pre Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Show the poster of a film. What kind of film is it? Elicit - romantic comedy Who are they? What happens? Sts discuss in pairs

While Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Sts listen and check their answers.

While-Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Give questions (sts read and try to answer) Listening X 2. Sts check answers in pairs.

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Give discussion questions. Sts ask questions (milling activity) H/O 2
