Main Aims
-
To provide clarification of quantifiers in the context of home towns.
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide reading and speaking opportunities for the students to practice the TL.
Procedure (46-61 minutes)
The students will be presented a photo of Antalya, which is their teacher's hometown. The teacher will then tell them an anecdote, good and bad things about living in Antalya. Then the students are asked to think about their hometowns for 2 minutes and write down their ideas. Then discuss it with their friends.
Put the students in groups and let them discuss Vocabulary exercise 2. Then let them take a look at the map of Montreal and quickly show where Old Montreal, Outremont and Verdun is. Tell them to read about these towns in the text and discuss which area they would prefer, with their partners.
Let the students read the text again and match the sentences in Reading exercise 2 with the towns in the text, through a matching activity.
Take a look at the presentation. Double check if the students remember countable and uncountable nouns. After reminding them of these, move on to Grammar exercise 1 at page 30. Let them fill the gaps by looking back at the text, with their pairs and check in groups.
Hand out the Grammar Exercise 2 in the student book page 30. If the time allows, also hand out Exercise 5 from the Workbook page 16. Let the students work in pairs and check their answers with their group.
Write six sentences about your town. Use a different quantifier in each sentence and share your sentences with your group. Monitor the students, did they have a hard time or an easy time? Note their mistakes and good language and mention them after the activity. MFP.
