Main Aims

To provide scan, gist and detailed reading practice using a text about an unusual house in the context of "At Home on a Plane".

Subsidiary Aims

To introduce and clarify related vocabulary in the context of home on a plane.
To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of dream house.

Procedure (45-55 minutes)

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students.

Teacher makes students watch a video about unusual houses around the world. Teacher asks students to share their thoughts about the unusual houses.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teacher elicits&pre-teaches potential blocking words by visuals. Teacher asks students to write the words in the correct place on the picture in pairs. Teacher asks students to compare their answers.

While-Reading 1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading task.

Teacher asks students to read the text quickly and tell what the text is about. Then teacher asks students to read the text carefully and answer the questions. Teacher elicits answers.

While-Reading 2 (14-16 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/ task.

Teacher asks students to read the text carefully again and answer True/False in pairs. Teacher asks each student to write an answer on the board. Teacher checks answers and do error correction if needed.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

1- Teacher asks students to share their ideas about what they like/don't like about Joanne's house. 2- Teacher asks students to talk about their dream houses in pairs.
