To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of swimming.
Procedure (17-27 minutes)
Show a video about baby swimming fails.Then, ask Ss whether they like swimming or not. Ask their ideas about swimming.
Hand out the reading passage about swimming and ask the students to read it and answer the questions true or false. Then, show the answers.
Show a picture about swimming winner and the second conditional usage,then ask CCQs. - Is he the winnner now? (NO) - Can he swim well now? (NO) Clarify that the sentence is in the second conditional and it is an unreal situation in the present time. Then,show the same picture with a sentence under it.The sentence is from the text.Ask the CCQs. - Did he train much before the competition? (NO) - Did he swim better in the pool? (NO) Explain that this sentence is in the third conditional and clarify the form.
Clarify and compare the second and the third conditionals.
Explain that Ss will fill in the blanks with the proper form of the verb in brackets. Ask ICQs to concept check. Then,show the answers.
Show the questions to the students on the board and make them pairs and explain that they will talk about the questions in pairs using the second and the third conditionals.
