Procedure (39-50 minutes)
Project some of the well-known shopping markets IKEA, Media Market, Decathlon etc., ask Ss which one they would prefer spending time and money. Which one is expensive? Which one is essential to live? Let Ss to discuss. Get feedback.
Give the lexis of the objects that Ss probably have the knowledge of. Ask Ss to discuss in PW the questions. (Which ones do you love shopping for?, Which are the ones you cannot live without? etc.) Later, elicit the context by showing the headlines and pictures. Add additional questions related to the text but encourage Ss for sharing their personal opinions, warming up for the upcoming reading exercise. Do PW. Monitor.
Ss are asked to make GW and jigsaw reading. T monitors. At the end of the reading, Ss are asked to mingle the groups and tell each other the stories in details.
Ss needs to answer the questions related to the text in PW. Monitor. Give some of the lexis used in the text. Ask Ss to find the lexis from the text by modeling one example, discuss the meaning in PW. Drill. Clarify the meaning. Ss fill in the blanks of the authentic material using the lexis given. Project the answers. If time allows, ask Ss to make their own stories using some of the words given. Ask to Ss to read loud. Feedback.
Watch the trailer for the Netflix documentary "Minimalism" 2 min. Take Ss opinions on minimalism and consumer world. Form GW. Ask Ss to make interview with each other and create a minimalist city idea together. Share the most interesting ideas after this freer task.
Monitor during the tasks, correct the errors by eliciting and giving new lexis by examples if needed by Ss.
